Becky Lynch has revisited a defining moment from her career ahead of WrestleMania 42. She revealed how an unexpected injury changed the trajectory of her path to the main event.
Speaking on The Soder Podcast, Lynch reflected on the now-iconic incident that occurred just before Survivor Series 2018. This moment didn’t just alter plans, but reshaped her legacy in WWE.
Becky Lynch details broken nose moment that sparked WrestleMania rise
During the interview, Lynch was asked whether she realized the significance of that night as it happened. Her answer captured both the chaos and clarity of the moment.
“Yes and no… Yes because I was like, ‘Oh now that this Survivor Series match isn’t going to happen now I have a run to WrestleMania… I’m going to be the first woman to win the main event for WrestleMania,’” Lynch said.
The injury — a legitimate broken nose and severe concussion — came during a brawl on the November 12, 2018, episode of Raw when Nia Jax accidentally struck her.
Despite being visibly rocked, Becky Lynch continued through the segment. She created the now-famous image of her standing in the crowd, bloodied but defiant.
That visual quickly became more than just a moment — it became a movement. Fans rallied behind Lynch’s “The Man” persona, and what looked like a setback turned into a slingshot.
The injury forced her out of a scheduled match against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series. However, it also opened the door for a longer arc that culminated in her Royal Rumble victory and eventual WrestleMania 35 main event win.
Now, as Lynch heads into WrestleMania 42 amid a heated rivalry with AJ Lee, the reflection adds context to her journey — a reminder that sometimes the road to the main event isn’t planned, it’s fought for.
