Triple H says Pat McAfee’s involvement in the WrestleMania 42 Undisputed WWE Championship storyline has made people talk, and that’s all that matters.
With only a day left for WrestleMania 42, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, appeared on ESPN First Take to promote the event. During the conversation, he shared his take on Pat McAfee inserting himself into the Undisputed WWE Championship storyline and the backlash that followed.
Triple H noted that he’s really looking forward to seeing the clash of the generations between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42. However, he believes Pat McAfee’s involvement in the storyline has made people talk, and that’s all that matters.
“There’s something on the horizon for this for sure,” Triple H began. “When you run your mouth as much as Pat does, eventually somebody’s going to try to shut it. But really, as a WWE fan, what I’m really looking forward to is that moment, mentor-student, Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, locking up over that WWE championship, it’s just a moment that transcends a couple of generations to me, and that’s what’s really cool about it.
“It’s always pressure, but the thing is, talk is good, right? People are talking, and that is a good thing. Pat, love him or hate him, Pat makes people talk, right? And I think that’s what’s important here. People are talking. This is going to be an amazing show. This will be incredible, and it will deliver on all levels,” Triple H said.
Triple H comments on how WWE WrestleMania has evolved from his days to the present
“Well, it’s crazy. Even then, as big as it felt to me, especially going into the ring with the Ultimate Warrior, who was such a big star at the time, my first WrestleMania. But it was at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. It was sold out, but it was an arena.
“It’s now this spectacle that you see here before you. A stadium, two nights, it’s a whole week of activities between SmackDown, the Hall of Fame, everything that’s going on here. Monday Night Raw afterwards, after two nights at WrestleMania. It’s this unbelievable spectacle that really has captivated the world and is bigger than anything, as I said a minute ago, in sport or entertainment,” Triple H said.
The Game addresses how WrestleMania got to this point after he took over WWE creative
“Well, it’s not even from when I took over,” Triple H said. It’s step by step, year by year. You know, you deliver. To me, this is one of those things where you give people this entertainment value year after year, and they want to come back again and again, and you create new fans. It’s one of my favorite things about WWE is the generational property of it.
“When you’re here on Saturday and Sunday, you will see grandparents, parents, kids; it’s generational. The people that grew up watching Hogan and Flair, they’ll brag about that to their kids that grew up watching Cena and The Rock and Austin, and people like that. It takes you to that next generational. It’s shared entertainment with family. More than half the people here will bring their kids with them,” Triple H said.
“It’s unbelievable. And to me, it’s a testament to our fan base. It’s a testament to our talent that just keep coming in on board and wanting to entertain. They put their heart and soul into this, and they will this weekend,” Triple H said.
