A vocal WWE crowd made its stance clear on the April 27 episode of RAW in Laredo, Texas, as chants erupted during a key women’s match — but the message behind them carried far more weight than a typical arena reaction.
The moment came just days after Kairi Sane was released, adding an unexpected layer to a segment that already featured high stakes inside the ring.
“We Want Kairi” chants interrupt Becky Lynch vs IYO SKY match on WWE RAW
During the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship match between Becky Lynch and IYO SKY, the crowd suddenly broke into loud “We Want Kairi” chants.
The reaction intensified when Asuka interfered, attacking SKY and shifting the focus away from the in-ring action.
The timing wasn’t random. Sane had been part of a storyline involving SKY and Asuka before her release on April 24, leaving that narrative without a clear finish. Fans appeared to connect the dots in real time — and they weren’t shy about calling it out.
According to Fightful Select and the Wrestling Observer, there has been “heavy frustration” backstage as well, largely because the storyline was still active when Sane exited. Meanwhile, the #WeWantKairi movement gained traction online, trending near the top on X over the weekend.
Despite the noise, there’s little indication of an immediate reversal. PWInsider reported that Sane has already returned to Japan, making a quick comeback unlikely — at least for now.
The match itself continued through the chaos, with Lynch ultimately retaining after a Manhandle Slam. Still, the crowd reaction lingered, almost like a chant that refused to be pinned.
Sane’s resume — from Mae Young Classic winner to multi-time tag champion — has left a lasting mark. And judging by this response, fans aren’t ready to walk the plank without their Pirate Princess just yet.
