Asuka and IYO SKY have a strong history with one another, and today at Backlash, the two couldn’t let their feud get in the way of recognizing it.
During today’s premium live event, Asuka and IYO SKY went at it in singles action, in a match many believed should’ve taken place at WrestleMania. The pair battled in an incredible match that eventually saw SKY come out on top after avoiding Asuka’s mist late in the match. She then won with a German suplex and moonsault. However, after winning, things got a little surprising.
After the match, which saw fans loudly chanting for the recently released Kairi Sane, Asuka showed her longtime friend respect. She embraced SKY, and the two shared an emotional moment in the ring as the crowd cheered on. SKY tried to get another hug in on Asuka as they left, but instead turned to the crowd to share her thanks.
It was a sweet ending to the match and their story, and although Sane was no longer involved, the pair made sure to honor one another in the ring. Check out the awesome moment after the match below:
