Shayna Baszler Reacts To Claims Ronda Rousey Fight Was Fixed

Shayna Baszler fires back at critics accusing Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano of being fixed.

Ronda Rousey stepped into the cage for the final fight of her illustrious career. The fight took place on Saturday against Gina Carano at the first-ever MMA event streamed live on Netflix. However, the bout ended almost as soon as it began, with Rousey securing a first-round armbar submission victory in just 17 seconds.

Following the fight, the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion paid tribute to Carano, calling her the “only person who could’ve brought me back into MMA” and “my f***ing hero.”

Despite the emotional moment, Rousey’s dominant 17-second win quickly sparked debate online, with some fans claiming the fight looked fixed. The criticism eventually caught the attention of one of Rousey’s closest friends in combat sports, former WWE Superstar Shayna Baszler.

Taking to X, Baszler mocked fans questioning the legitimacy of the result and pointed out that Rousey has built a career on lightning-fast finishes. She also reminded critics that the Carano fight was far from the quickest victory of Rousey’s MMA run.

“If you want to know how fast the memory of MMA fans gets erased, 17 seconds isn’t even her fastest win and people think it was worked, lol. What about her :14 win over Zigano? Or her :16 win over Davis? Or her other 5 wins under :30? Or her 9 total wins under a minute?”

After the fight, Rousey also confirmed her second retirement from MMA. The former UFC champion revealed that she plans to focus on expanding her family and having more children following her victory over Carano.
