One of the key figures behind WWE’s developmental system is set to spend some time away from the Performance Center. According to a new report, veteran coach Terry Taylor is preparing for a medical procedure that will temporarily impact both his coaching duties and upcoming public appearances.
Taylor remains one of the most respected trainers within WWE’s developmental structure. This makes the news particularly noteworthy for those who closely follow the growth of future WWE stars.
Terry Taylor to undergo Knee surgery in coming weeks
According to PWInsider, Taylor is scheduled to undergo knee surgery in the coming weeks. The report noted that the procedure and subsequent recovery period will prevent him from attending TMart Promotions’ The Gathering convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, this July.
While WWE has not announced how long Taylor will be sidelined from his coaching responsibilities, the surgery is expected to require significant recovery before he can resume his regular duties.
Taylor plays a significant role at the WWE Performance Center as one of its head developmental coaches. He is particularly known for overseeing the prestigious “finishing class,” also known as level four training.
This advanced stage focuses on refining ring psychology, character development, and performance details before talent moves on to larger opportunities within WWE programming.
The upcoming procedure is also another reminder of the physical toll accumulated throughout Taylor’s lengthy wrestling career. Before transitioning into coaching and developmental work, Taylor competed across multiple major promotions. These included NWA, WCW, and WWE, where many fans remember him as The Red Rooster.
This isn’t the first major surgery Taylor has faced. He previously underwent two neck fusion procedures. Moreover, a serious neck operation in 2016 temporarily took him away from the Performance Center. During that absence, Shawn Michaels stepped in to oversee the finishing class while Taylor recovered.
At this time, no recovery timetable or temporary replacement has been announced. For now, the focus is on getting one of WWE’s most influential coaches back on his feet. After years of helping prospects kick out at two and reach the next level, Taylor’s latest challenge is one he’ll have to work through outside the ring.
