Chelsea Green has dealt with multiple injury setbacks during her WWE career. However, those obstacles never completely removed her from television.
The WWE star recently explained how she managed to remain a regular presence on programming even while recovering from legitimate health issues.
Green previously spent time sidelined with an ankle injury and also underwent a procedure for S.V.T.
Despite those setbacks, WWE continued finding ways to feature her on-screen. Now, the former Women’s United States Champion has shared what she believes made that possible.
Chelsea Green credits character work for WWE TV presence
Speaking with the Toronto Sun, Chelsea Green reflected on her ability to remain involved despite not receving medical clearance to compete.
“I feel very lucky. I feel like every time that they try to like kick me off TV for an injury or something legitimately happens, I’m like I sneak my little way back in there.”
According to Green, WWE’s presentation as a variety show helped create opportunities beyond in-ring competition.
“I think the thing is like it is a variety show and I found that niche. I found that the mic skills that they need or the comedic relief that they need.”
Green explained that she embraced a role that offered something different from the wrestling action featured throughout the program.
“So, at the end of the day, like we do need that little bit of ridiculousness on TV every week, you know, to break up the kind of monotony of amazing wrestling.”
The WWE star also joked that she has benefited from finding a unique lane within the company.
“I’m happy that I found that niche and I’m able to kind of like abuse the system in that way because they always ask me, you know, even if I’m off with an injury to come do something. So, I’m very very blessed.”
Her comments explain why Green remained visible throughout her recovery periods. While injuries may have temporarily taken her out of the ring, they didn’t take her off the microphone. In a business where performers often fight to stay in the spotlight, Green found a way to keep her character in the picture even when she couldn’t lace up her boots.
Now back in regular in-ring action, including an appearance on the June 8 episode of Raw, Green continues to prove that sometimes the best way to avoid being counted out is to keep finding new ways to stay in the match.
