WWE‘s Chad Gable reveals the bonus surgery he had after his shoulder injury turned out to be much worse than expected.
Chad Gable returned to WWE in January 2026 after spending over seven months on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury. He is releasing a multi-part docuseries called The Renewal, documenting his journey through the injury and recovery. Episode 2 covers his rotator cuff surgery, in which he revealed that Dr. Jeffrey Dugas had to do a “bonus surgery” during the process after he found Gable’s bicep tendon completely shredded to an extensive degree.
“We’re done. Surgery went well. Fixed it up just like we were supposed to. But while Dr. Dugas was in there, he found the bicep tendon at the shoulder was pretty much completely shredded to a degree that he did not know because the images don’t always show everything. So when he went in there, the bicep tendon was actually a lot worse than he thought it was. So he repaired that as well since he was in there anyway. A little bonus surgery for Gable here,” Chad Gable said.
Chad Gable says he got injured during the best run of his WWE career
In the first episode, Chad Gable admitted that the injury had massive consequences, as it came at a time he felt he was putting on his best performance every week playing his El Grande Americano character.
“Obviously, there’s never a good time to get injured. It’s never like, ‘Oh, well, the timing worked out on that.’ But to me specifically, this timing was especially hurtful because I was on the role of a lifetime, in my opinion, career-wise. I was having these incredible matches that I’ve been waiting to have with guys like Vikingo, Dragon Lee, Penta, all these awesome luchadors. The storytelling we were able to do, the physicality that was going on week to week and it just seemed to increase every week and get better and more intense and it all just comes to an end just like that,” Chad Gable said.
