MJF Responds to Criticism After Wrestling Through Knee Injury

MJF claps back at AEW fans who criticize him for not wrestling enough.

During his recent appearance on the Shut Up and Wrestle podcast, AEW World Champion MJF had a profanity-filled response to fans who criticize him for not wrestling enough. He asked them if they had any idea how much it hurts when wrestlers compete in the ring and revealed that he is currently in a lot of pain dealing with knee issues.

“I always laugh, especially earlier on in my AEW career when fans were like, ‘Why isn’t MJF wrestling more?’ F**k you! You take a bump, p***y. It hurts. Do you have any idea how much it hurts? Everything we do in there hurts. Like, while you’re interviewing me right now, my knee is f****d. It’s swollen to s**t. I’m in a s**t ton of f*****g pain.

“But it’s on me because I’m the f*****g top guy and people are leaning on me to make sure that we’re doing well. So I got to f*****g lace my f*****g boots up and get in that godd**n ring. Obviously, a doctor’s never going to let me go in there unless structurally I’m okay. So don’t think I’m burying the AEW medical team. I’m in a lot of pain. There’s swelling, but structurally I’m good,” MJF said.

MJF says younger wrestling fans fail to understand the physical reality of wrestling

Speaking further, MJF noted that he chose this painful career to chase his dream and doesn’t want sympathy. However, he wishes the newer generation of fans would understand and respect the physical toll that every single move takes on a wrestler’s body.

“But the bottom line is this. I know everyone who’s listening to me on this podcast respects what I do and understands what I do. There is this new wrestling fandom of these younger kids that think this is all funsies and they don’t understand how much we’re putting on the line physically every time we go through the curtain. It takes a toll, dude,” MJF continued.

“I’m 30, I’m in pain, and I’m only 30. I can’t imagine what I’m going to feel like when I’m 40 or 50. But I’m also not asking for sympathy either. I’m not a b***h. I fully understand. I signed up for this s**t. This was my decision and my dream to chase. However, I just wish wrestling fans understood more that every time we go out there, it’s painful. It’s not like it only hurts when we take a bump on the godd**n apron. It hurts every time we take a bump. No matter what, it hurts,” MJF said.
