AEW’s MJF Shares Positive Update on Knee Injury Recovery

AEW World Champion MJF has offered a promising update on the knee injury he suffered earlier this month. He suggested that his recovery may be progressing faster than some expected.

The champion addressed fans directly through a video posted on Instagram, though in classic MJF fashion, the update came with plenty of character-driven humor.

Filming from an ice plunge tub, MJF discussed the injury that occurred during his successful AEW World Title defense against Rush on the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite.

While the injury forced him to make at least one change to his upcoming schedule, the latest signs appear encouraging.

MJF says swelling and pain have improved since AEW Dynamite injury

In the video, MJF explained that his knee has already shown noticeable improvement since the match.

“Very recently I’ve heard my left knee. I ever extended it in a match against rushu [Rush] is a bad person. I think we can all agree on that.”

He later added that the swelling had gone down significantly in the days following the injury.

“And honestly, the Nordic wave this match happened on Wednesday. It is now I believe Tuesday and my information of my knees. Drastically gone down.”

The injury initially sparked speculation among fans, with many believing it occurred during a Tombstone Piledriver spot on the barricade. However, Fightful Select reported that the hyperextension actually resulted from what was described as a “freak accident” involving a running knee strike from Rush in the corner. The report also noted there is no backstage heat on Rush over the incident.

MJF credited his recovery progress to the cold therapy treatment featured throughout the video, turning the update into what felt like a tongue-in-cheek sponsored segment. He stated:

“Obviously, there’s still a shift on information and pain, but being honest with myself. Without this cold plunge, I do believe it would have took me a lot longer to start feeling like myself, and honestly, I think nordic way was going to be a big part of ensuring that I don’t have to take any time off, which is imperative for both. My career and frankly, the company of all E wrestling ratings ticket sales papers you buys you need it.”

He closed with another trademark MJF-style line:

“You’re welcome. My name is national gyper Freeman. Nordic weed is my go to for cold plunging, and I’m better than, you know.”

The injury did force MJF to withdraw from his scheduled match against Bobby Orlando at Beyond Wrestling’s Break The Walls Down event, with Andrade El Idolo taking his place. However, AEW reportedly plans to keep the champion involved on television in a non-wrestling role while monitoring his recovery.

More importantly for AEW fans, his current creative plans for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 28 are not believed to be in jeopardy.

For now, MJF appears to be taking recovery one cold plunge at a time, and if his latest update is any indication, the champion may avoid being counted out for long.
