Chad Gable has apologized to the WWE Universe for the controversial Shorty G gimmick.
Following his return to WWE television, Gable has been making amends for his past mistakes. During the June 22 episode of WWE RAW, he apologized to Maxxine Dupri, Akira Tozawa, and Otis for the way he treated Alpha Academy. While Otis and Tozawa appeared receptive to Gable’s apology, neither man explicitly accepted it. Maxxine, however, rejected his apology outright, telling Gable that Alpha Academy was better off without him.
During a recent appearance on Grand Karma Wrestling, Gable was asked whether he wanted to apologize to fans as well. Leaning into his ongoing redemption storyline, the former Alpha Academy leader jokingly admitted there was one thing he still owed the WWE Universe an apology for.
“What? So, what would you like me to apologize for? Because you got me at the right moment. I mean, I’m very vulnerable lately. Let me just say I’ll apologize to you guys personally and to the entire audience for Shorty G. Will you at least accept? I know Maxxine and them didn’t, but you guys have to accept that one. That was my fault. That’s on me.”
Shorty G was immediately criticized by WWE fans
The “Shorty G” character debuted in 2019 after Gable was repeatedly mocked for his height by Baron Corbin. WWE eventually shortened his name from Chad Gable to Shorty G, with the Olympian embracing the nickname as part of a babyface persona. The gimmick was widely criticized by fans and was short-lived, as WWE ultimately dropped the character before restoring Gable’s full ring name.
Gable’s recent change in attitude comes after losing a Mask vs. Mask match to El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser). The defeat marked a turning point for the former American Made leader, leading to his babyface turn and a storyline centered around taking responsibility for his past actions.
