Tempers reached a boiling point on the July 8 edition of AEW Dynamite: Beach Break. MJF and Will Ospreay turned a backstage confrontation into an all-out brawl.
While words were expected between the two rivals, one disrespectful act pushed the exchange well past the point of no return.
With the AEW World Championship picture continuing to heat up ahead of All In, the latest chapter in their rivalry showed there will be no handshake before these two eventually lock horns.
MJF and Will Ospreay rivalry boils over on AEW Dynamite
The confrontation began during a backstage interview with Renee Paquette. Will Ospreay discussed MJF’s upcoming world title defense against Kenny Omega. Ospreay admitted he was backing Omega, saying MJF’s biggest strength wasn’t his wrestling ability but “the bullshit.”
MJF soon interrupted and insisted he was the reason fans were living through the “golden era” of AEW in 2026. He claimed that while people talked about Ospreay “restoring the feeling,” he was the feeling. Friedman also promised that Omega would never challenge for the AEW World Championship again after their match. Moreover, he warned Ospreay that he would “break” him in front of his home crowd at Wembley Stadium.
Ospreay wasn’t about to let those comments slide. He fired back by telling MJF his breath “smells like cat piss” and said the champion didn’t even rank among the top 50 wrestlers in the world. Ospreay added that MJF constantly craved attention and argued that until he abandoned his underhanded tactics, he would never earn the respect he wanted. It was a verbal exchange worthy of a microphone drop — until things became much more physical.
The confrontation reached its breaking point when MJF spat directly in Ospreay’s face. Ospreay immediately attacked the champion. The two stars erupted into a wild brawl before security rushed in to separate them. Even as officials restored order, MJF shouted that Kenny Omega was “a dead man” and blamed Ospreay for what would happen next.
With Ospreay already guaranteed an AEW World Championship opportunity at All In after winning the 2026 Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, the hostility between the two rivals continues to escalate. If this confrontation is any indication, their eventual showdown could steal the spotlight before the opening bell even rings.
