Major Title Changes Hands After Brutal Turnbuckle Finish on AEW Dynamite

A championship changed hands on the July 8 edition of AEW Dynamite: Beach Break as one of AEW’s fiercest rivalries reached its breaking point.

However, it took outside involvement and a devastating final blow before a new champion could finally be crowned.

Former allies Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita entered the match with plenty of unfinished business.

By the end of the night, their friendship was well and truly left on the mat, and so was the AEW International Championship.

Kyle Fletcher captures AEW International Championship at Beach Break

The Beach Break title bout showcased the chemistry and intensity that once made Fletcher and Takeshita successful partners. Both competitors traded counters, stiff strikes, and momentum swings throughout the contest, refusing to give the other an inch.

Takeshita found success with signature offense, including an Exploder Suplex, a Tope Con Hilo, and an Avalanche Brainbuster. Fletcher answered with powerful kicks, a Michinoku Driver, and relentless attacks aimed at Takeshita’s injured right arm. The back-and-forth battle kept fans guessing, proving there was no weak link in either competitor’s game.

The decisive moment came when Don Callis inserted himself into the action. Although Takeshita briefly recovered and connected with Raging Fire, Fletcher survived after reaching the ropes. Moments later, Fletcher capitalized by targeting the champion’s injured arm before delivering a crushing Brainbuster in the ring.

“The Protostar” then raised the stakes one final time. Fletcher followed up with a brutal Brainbuster onto the top turnbuckle, folding Takeshita for the three-count to capture his first AEW International Championship. It was a finish that truly left the title picture turned upside down.

After the bell, members of the Don Callis Family flooded the ring to celebrate Fletcher’s championship victory, bringing the International Title back to the faction. On the other side, members of The Conglomeration checked on a battered Takeshita after his reign ended just over a month after it began.

With Takeshita set to head to Japan for the upcoming G1 Climax tournament, Fletcher now stands atop the AEW International Division. The Protostar has officially reached championship orbit, and his first title reign begins with significant momentum.
