Darby Allin, once again, brought chaos to AEW Dynamite after a backstage attack on the Don Callis Family ended with one of his skateboards exploding in Brian Cage’s face.
The July 8 episode of AEW Dynamite: Beach Break featured several massive moments, including a title change, a surprise appearance by Mick Foley, and a wild backstage segment. While Kyle Fletcher celebrated winning singles gold, Darby Allin and Andrade El Idolo got into a backstage fight with the Don Callis Family.
Darby Allin’s exploding skateboard shocks the Don Callis Family
Earlier in the night, Fletcher challenged Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship. The two former allies put on an exciting match before Fletcher hit a turnbuckle brainbuster to score the win and become the new champion.
Later, Mick Foley made a surprise appearance to congratulate Fletcher. Foley praised both wrestlers and called the title match one of the best he had ever seen. He then asked Fletcher how it felt to beat his former friend.
Fletcher quickly shut that idea down. He said Takeshita was never really his friend and claimed that he had been carrying him all along. He also reminded everyone that he and Kazuchika Okada had promised to bring the International Championship back to the Don Callis Family.
Don Callis interrupted the conversation, saying the spotlight should stay on his group instead of Foley. Foley fired back, saying that if Callis interrupted him again, the shoe on his left foot would end up somewhere Callis definitely wouldn’t enjoy.
Kevin Knight then came out to congratulate Fletcher. However, he also reminded Don Callis that he had promised him a future world title opportunity. Knight confidently said that “Jet Two Belts” was coming.
Soon after, Andrade walked out and confronted Callis. Andrade claimed he had once been the Don Callis Family’s top star and accused Callis of never giving him the world title opportunity he had promised.
Callis responded by offering Andrade a match against Jake Doyle next week. If Andrade wins, he will earn a shot at Mark Davis’ AEW National Championship.
Instead of leaving quietly, Andrade mocked the faction before walking backstage. Kevin Knight, Brian Cage, Jake Doyle, and the rest of the Don Callis Family chased after him. The chase led everyone into a boardroom, where Darby Allin suddenly appeared and attacked the Don Callis Family.
Knight remembered Allin’s past tricks and immediately became suspicious of his backpack. Rather than checking it himself, he told Brian Cage to pick up Allin’s skateboard.
As Cage was about to hit Allin with the skateboard, it exploded right in his face, leaving him stunned. Moments later, the cameras showed Andrade holding a detonator, revealing that the explosion had been part of a carefully planned trap. After that, Andrade also joined the brawl.
The attack gave Darby Allin and Andrade the upper hand in their rivalry with the Don Callis Family.
