Bron Breakker‘s trajectory reportedly changed significantly after Seth Rollins suffered an injury.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE originally had long-term plans for Breakker to emerge as one of the company’s top stars through his alliance with Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins.
Meltzer noted that when Heyman aligned himself with Rollins, the plan was for “The Visionary” to mentor Breakker before eventually being betrayed by both men.
“Literally from the start, there was a long-term goal of Heyman & Breakker as the WWE championship tandem. When Heyman went with Rollins, the long-term plan was Rollins would take Breakker under his wing, and then Heyman & Breakker would double-cross Rollins and Breakker would become the top new star in the promotion.”
However, those plans reportedly changed after Rollins was sidelined with an injury, forcing WWE to accelerate the split between the three.
“The injury to Rollins moved the break-up up by months, as that wasn’t supposed to happen until late April.”
Bron Breakker’s Original Direction Also Included Program With Top WWE Star
Meltzer added that Breakker’s original direction also included a major championship program with CM Punk. According to the report, Breakker’s loss to Punk was intended to set up a future title victory, but WWE instead shifted its focus to Roman Reigns after Rollins’ injury altered creative plans.
“Breakker’s first big loss to Punk was there to set up his beating Punk for the title, but that one went to Reigns since the original plan of Reigns vs. Rollins fell through with the Rollins injury and they wanted to still do that feud.”
The report also suggested that recent creative decisions indicate WWE’s priorities may have shifted.
“I wouldn’t write Breakker off as dead, but this move and everything in the past month really seems to indicate Femi is the guy and Breakker is a guy.”
