Nia Jax’s road to SummerSlam took another frustrating turn on the July 24 episode of WWE SmackDown.
After receiving a second chance to qualify for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match, Jax once again saw her opportunity disappear because of outside interference rather than a decisive result inside the ring.
The latest setback continued an unfortunate trend, leaving Jax without a place in one of SummerSlam’s biggest championship matches.
Charlotte Flair advances after Jade Cargill costs Nia Jax again
The qualifying match, held at Oakland Arena, saw Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax battle for a coveted spot in the Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match. Jax controlled much of the early action before the momentum shifted following a dramatic interruption.
As Charlotte climbed to the top rope after the commercial break, Jade Cargill arrived alongside her Baddies, creating a distraction. Jax briefly turned her attention toward Cargill. She told her to stay out of the match before the situation quickly spiraled into chaos.
B-FAB and Michin attempted to get involved, but Charlotte fought them off, sending Michin into the barricade and superkicking B-FAB. Moments later, Jax dropped Cargill with an elbow before Charlotte escaped from Jax’s grasp and knocked her to the floor.
With Jax outside the ring, Cargill entered and attacked Charlotte with a punch, forcing the referee to call for the disqualification. As a result, Flair was awarded the victory and officially qualified for the SummerSlam Ladder Match.
For Jax, the finish was déjà vu all over again. On the July 17 edition of SmackDown, she lost another qualifier after Charlotte interfered by attacking Cargill with a steel chair. This handed Cargill the victory via disqualification. One week later, the roles were reversed. Nia Jax again found herself on the losing end despite not being pinned or submitted.
Following the bell, Cargill planted Charlotte with Jaded, while an enraged Jax tore apart the announce desk after realizing another SummerSlam opportunity had slipped through her fingers. Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t your opponent — it’s the referee signaling for the bell.
