Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Grand Slam Becky Lynch, Saraya & Toni Storm Set For Battle, VertVixen Interview

Becky Lynch wins the NXT Women’s Championship. Saraya will defend the AEW Women’s Championship against Toni Storm. VertVixen speaks with WrestleZone, and more. Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

Becky Lynch Becomes A Grand Slam Champion

“The Man” is now a Grand Slam Champion in WWE.

Last week’s episode of WWE NXT was headlined by an NXT Women’s Championship match between the challenger Becky Lynch and the reigning titleholder Tiffany Stratton. For Becky Lynch, this marked her first NXT match in 4 years. For Tiffany Stratton, this was an opportunity to prove herself against one of WWE’s most decorated champions.

While Stratton seemed extra confident heading into her title defense, it was Lynch who emerged victorious. In the closing moments of the contest, Lynch set Stratton into position for the Manhandle Slam. Stratton, though, quickly countered it into a roll-up. After Lynch kicked out, Stratton placed her in the corner, directly in line for Stratton to nail her with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. Unfortunately for Stratton, Lynch rose back to her feet in time to properly deliver her Manhandle Slam and gain the pinfall.

With this victory, Lynch was crowned as the new NXT Women’s Champion. Lynch also completed her journey to becoming a WWE Grand Slam Champion.

Following the celebration, Becky Lynch spoke with Kelly Kincaid in an NXT Exclusive.

“Ooh that has great ring to it, doesn’t it? The Grand Slam Man, here we go. Becky Balboa, we did it. Oh my goodness, this is wild.  This is wild!” Lynch said. “I’ve had becoming the NXT Women’s Champion on my goal list for the last ten, maybe eleven years. It’s one of those things that you [think], ‘Okay, well, I’m not in NXT, maybe it’s never gonna happen.’ Then Tiffany just had to go running her mouth too much, and here we freakin’ are! I can’t say nothing’s impossible no more. Family full of champions. That’s us, me and Seth Rollins, Seth ‘Freaking’ Rollins, We’re both champions. Look at us, controlling the business.”

During last night’s episode of WWE Raw, Lynch successfully defended the NXT Women’s Championship against her old rival Natalya. Tonight, Lynch returns to NXT, with Stratton most likely waiting in the wings.

Saraya To Defend AEW Women’s Title Against Ally Toni Storm

Two allies must now fight each other on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

During last week’s episode of Dynamite, four women battled for an opportunity to challenge Saraya for the AEW Women’s Championship. All four — Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Toni Storm — were former AEW Women’s Champions. Only one could earn a title shot.

Toward the end of the match, Baker appeared to be closing in on a victory, laying out Shida with a kick and a stomp. As Baker turned her back, though, Storm capitalized, placing Baker in a roll-up position for a three count, and the win. With the pinfall secured, Storm now turns her attention to her ally, Saraya, whom she will challenge for AEW Women’s Championship on tomorrow’s special Grand Slam episode of Dynamite.

Ahead of their title match, Saraya asserted that her fellow Outcasts stablemate is her best friend. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean Storm is exempt from the ass-kicking that Saraya intends to give her.

“Toni is my BESTTTT friend. I know her better than anyone. The a** kicking I have to give her is out of pure love,” Saraya tweeted.

Tomorrow’s AEW Women’s Championship match will mark the first-ever singles meeting between Saraya and Storm. Saraya previously won the title in a four-way match against Storm, Shida, and Baker at AEW All In on August 27.
