Calypso: Ranking On The PWI Women’s 250 Is Encouraging, Motivates Me To Do Better

Calypso continues her ascent in the European wrestling scene.

In October, professional wrestling fans gathered for a celebration of women’s wrestling as Pro Wrestling Illustrated unveiled their 2023 Women’s 250 list. One of the talents featured on the list was French performer Calypso, who ranked #173. During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Calypso, who is also known as “The Woman With Three Faces,” recalled her reaction to receiving this honor.

“Honestly, I didn’t think one bit that I was going to be on it,” Calypso said. “I really didn’t think I was going to be on it because I feel like I can improve a lot and I’m not at all at my top level. And I still have a long way to be one of the best. So when I saw that I was in there, I was like, ‘What the heck?’ I was expecting other French girls [to be on the list.] Amale is on it, but I was expecting her to be a lot higher. I was expecting, expecting Mila Smidt to be in it. I was expecting

Kira Chimera to be in it, but I wasn’t expecting me at all.”

“I [thought] I was going to be 251 or something like that,” Calypso continued. “When I saw that I was in there, and there was only Amale, and not Mila and Kira [as well], I was shocked. I feel like they deserved it way more than me because they did a lot of more matches than me. Mila wrestled pretty much all year, so I was shocked that she wasn’t in it, Kira too. I bought the PWI [magazine] and I was looking through it, and was searching for them. I was like, ‘What the heck?’:

After surpassing the initial shock, Calypso then saw her ranking as extra motivation to keep honing her craft inside the wrestling ring.

“That was just an honor, to be honest. I started crying when I saw my name. I started crying and I texted my family and sent them the screenshot. They were so proud of me. They were like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was just amazing to have this. It just encourages me; it motivates me to do better.”
