The Watch List looks at what matches you should be watching, and they are recommended by today’s professional wrestling stars.
WrestleZone recently spoke with Alex Kane, the current MLW World Champion. Kane said his most recent title defense (at the time of recording) is his best match to date.
“Honestly, I think the last title defense is one to watch,” Alex Kane said. “That’ll tell you exactly why I am in this position.”
Kane successfully defended his title against Jacob Fatu at MLW Fightland 2023. Since then, he also retained his title against Matt Cardona.
In many ways, Kane, Fatu and Alex Hammerstone have been positioned as the cornerstones of MLW. Kane spoke about that dynamic and said no one else looks like them. As far as he’s concerned, he can back up the trash talk he dishes out.
“I think a lot of it is we’re all different personalities, and there’s — like, I can give Hammerstone a little love. Like we’re all different personalities, and when you look on the roster, there’s nobody else like any of the three of us. And we’re all drastically different. I kind of see like Hammerstone’s reign is like some Hulk Hogan stuff. And I mean, it makes sense because Hulk Hogan is his favorite wrestler. He’s got the tan to match. Still unmelanated, but he’s got the tan to match.
“I don’t know what to call Fatu’s. Maybe lean into a little bit of like a [Mark Henry] Hall of Pain type run. And then I kind of feel like mine is like if Clubber Lang and Deion Sanders had a baby. Because they both talk ungodly amounts of garbage, trash, but back it up. So like, you get all of these different flavors of on each of these cornerstones, and we deliver every time. So I mean, if someone’s delivering like a midwife, you can’t count them out.”
