Charity King is ready to run the world…or Texas, at least.
This Saturday, Metroplex Wrestling will take over the MPX Event Center in Bedford, Texas for its first regular all-women’s show, titled Who Runs The World. Amongst the card is a Bad Bitch Brawl pitting four of wrestling’s toughest powerhouses against each other.
Ahead of the August 9 event, WrestleZone’s Ella Jay spoke with Charity King, one of the competitors involved, about her match and the show itself, which is inspired a female anthem sung by Beyonce.
“For one, I am totally grateful honestly that she even looked at me and decided to be on this huge platform because she is obviously a huge star,” King said in reference to ROH Women’s Champion Athena, who is also spearheading the event. “When someone of her magnitude is going to host something, all eyes are going to be on it. So to be a part of it in some way is truly humbling.
“As far as the brawl goes, I’m ready for anything. These muscles are truly shoot. They’re not just a gimmick. I’m strong for real. They need to make sure that they are ready because I stay ready.”
Standing across the ring from King in the Bad Bitch Brawl will be Morgan Mercy, Baby D, and former AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose. Elsewhere, TNA’s Masha Slamovich will take on Hyan and VertVixen, the latter of whom is coming off a WWE tryout during SummerSlam weekend. MPX Women’s Champion Reiza Clarke will also defend her title against Abadon.

King Wants More Platforms & Opportunities For Women In Wrestling
Who Runs The World isn’t King’s first experience with an all-women’s wrestling series as she previously appeared in Mission Pro Wrestling and WOW. In the former, which is currently amidst a hiatus, she reigned as an MPW Tag Team Champion alongside Danni Bee. Nevertheless, King believes the same spirit will emerge at Metroplex.
“It’s nice that there are a whole lot more of the all women shows that are starting up and they’re continuing,” King told WZ. “Obviously, Mission was one of them, and then of course it started to incorporate the men a little bit more towards the end. It’s nice to have one again in Texas. I just think that women continue to need more platforms, continue to need more opportunities. It’s not enough to just have one women’s match and then be okay. So it’s cool to have a whole show that’s just for us.”
Charity King Recalls Previous Encounter With Athena
Regarding Athena, the coordinator of Who Runs The World, King revealed that they share a brief history dating back to her training at Reality of Wrestling, a Houston-based school run by WWE Hall of Famers Booker T and Sharmell.
“I used to train at my old school, Reality of Wrestling. At that time, [Athena] had a school that was in Dallas, I believe,” King said. “I don’t know if it’s the same one that she’s working with now, but they did like a swap thing where they sent us to her and then she sent her girls to us. So we went there to train with her. She was the first person to break down parts of a match to me. It was cool going to train with her that one time there. So that’s my only experience that I’ve had with her was during that little tradeoff I guess at the two schools did.”
In addition to her roles as ROH Women’s Champion and Who Runs The World booker, Athena currently serves as a co-owner of Metroplex Wrestling, which was established in 2010.
