Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Ash By Elegance Is KO Champ, Mercedes Nine Belts, Kristara Interview

Ash By Elegance captures the TNA Knockouts Championship. Mercedes Moné now has nine belts to her name. Kristara chats with WrestleZone, and more!

Ash By Elegance Is TNA Knockouts Champion

In perhaps the biggest surprise of last weekend, Ash By Elegance dethroned Jacy Jayne as TNA Knockouts Champion.

The title change occurred at WWE NXT Heatwave when Jayne defended the Knockouts Championship against Ash and Masha Slamovich in a triple threat. Toward the end of the action, Jayne’s Fatal Influence stablemates (Jazmyn Nyx and Fallon Henley) were ejected from ringside. Meanwhile, Ash’s allies Heather Reckless and Maggie Lee remained and ultimately set her up for the win.

Jayne seemed on the verge of victory when she struck Slamovich with a rolling elbow. Before she could gain a three-count on “The Russian Dynamite,” however, Maggie and Heather pulled Jayne to the outside. With Jayne neutralized, Ash then scaled the turnbuckle and descended onto Slamovich with a Swanton Bomb for the match-winning pinfall. As such, she is now a double champion, with both the TNA Knockouts World and Knockouts Tag Team Championships in her possession.

Fresh off her win, Ash appeared on TMZ’s Inside The Ring to share some celebratory words.

“I’ve watched Jacy when I was in NXT before. She was actually with Mandy Rose as well, too. Mandy and I are great friends. We were actually tag team partners. So, it’s crazy kind of watching her evolution and her develop in the ring as well,” Ash said. “Same with Masha. I had seen Masha when I broke into TNA and just kind of see her grow to the top. Her matches with Jordynne Grace were phenomenal. So I knew I had to dig deep, but there’s only one person I needed to prove this to, and that was to myself.

“I felt as though that I had to pull out some crazy stops,” she continued, “things that people may have never expected me to do or I was never given the opportunity or chance to do. I am very excited to go back to TNA and represent this title. I’m also very blessed and fortunate to go back and work with the NXT girls that I feel as though are super hungry and motivated. I’m ready. Whoever wants to step to the plate, they’re going to have a whole other animal in front of them because this title gives me such motivation and drive.”

Despite losing the TNA Knockouts Championship, Jayne still reigns as the NXT Women’s Champion, with Lola Vice as her upcoming challenger at NXT No Mercy. Meanwhile, Ash looks ahead to Jody Threat, who recently won a number one contender’s gauntlet match.

Nine Belts Moné

The championship collection of Mercedes Moné continues to grow.

Last weekend, Moné returned to RevPro, this time for a Winner Takes All match involving her RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship and Emersyn Jayne’s Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship. The title-for-title bout took place on night one of RevPro’s 13th Anniversary show in London, with Moné emerging victorious.

The following night, Moné teamed with Dani Luna and Kanji to defeat the Cut Throat Collective (Alex Windsor, Nina Samuels and Safire Reed). Kanji and Reed previously stood across the ring from Moné as they each challenged for the Undisputed British Women’s Championship. Given their tag victory, however, it seems that Moné and Kanji could be allies moving forward. Luna, on the other hand, teased a potential future title match against Moné.

Elsewhere in London, Moné successfully defended her AEW TBS Championship against Alex Windsor, STARDOM’s Bozilla, and CMLL’s Persephone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. With this respective victory, she officially walked out of the UK with nine championship belts to her name:

  • AEW TBS Championship
  • RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship
  • Queen of Southside Championship
  • Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Championship
  • CMLL World Women’s Championship
  • European Wrestling Association Women’s Championship
  • BestYa Wrestling Women’s Championship
  • Prime Time Wrestling Women’s Championship
  • Discovery Wrestling Scottish Women’s Championship

On AEW Dynamite, Moné put all her current titles on display, while warning everyone with others that she’d be coming for them. Last month, Moné unsuccessfully challenged Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship. Storm went on to retain that title against Athena at Forbidden Door.

WWE Speed Women’s Championship Coming To NXT

Sol Ruca currently holds two titles in WWE, the NXT Women’s North American Championship and the Women’s Speed Championship. In recent weeks, though, the future of the latter appeared to be up in the air as WWE reportedly and quietly cancelled its WWE Speed program.

Despite that, WWE NXT General Manager Ava confirmed that the men’s and women’s Speed Championships would still be in circulation, with NXT as their new home. Next week, a four-woman tournament will kick off to determine the next challenger to Ruca’s Women’s Speed Championship. Amongst the tournament participants are one competitor from each of the following brands: WWE SmackDown, WWE NXT, TNA, and AAA.

Candie LeRae (SmackDown) will take on TNA’s Xia Brookside in the first opening round match. Standing on the other side of the bracket are AAA’s Faby Apache and NXT’s Lainey Reid. The winner of the tournament will earn the right to face Ruca for the Women’s Speed Championship at NXT No Mercy on September 27.

There is no word on whether Ruca will also defend her NXT Women’s North American Championship at the PLE. Ruca claimed the Women’s Speed Championship by defeating LeRae on WWE Speed in April.
