HOOK (c) vs. Chris Jericho – Singles match for the FTW Championship at AEW Dynasty

Chris Jericho seemed eager to get HOOK under the “learning tree” following his loss to the latter last month on Dynamite. Both men would briefly join forces alongside Katsuyori Shibata to take on Shane Taylor Promotions on April 10th Dynamite. Differences, however, would prevail to cost the babyfaces their trios match.

Jericho attempted to explain himself to HOOK two weeks later in a segment that also involved Taz. The Lionheart would shove Taz in a fit of rage causing HOOK to tear into the veteran for assaulting his father.

Will Jericho get the best of HOOK or will the young FTW Champion extend his title reign at AEW Dynasty?

Roderick Strong (c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly – Singles match for the AEW International Championship

Roderick Strong put an end to Orange Cassidy’s International Championship reign at AEW Revolution. The new champion would be confronted by a returning Kyle O’Reilly following the massive upset. Both men shared a hug and Strong offered his old tag team partner the Undisputed Kingdom shirt.

O’Reilly, however, refused the offer and whispered something in Strong’s ear before leaving the ring. An irate Strong would attack his former Undisputed Era stablemate at AEW Battle of the Belts X to officially kickoff their program for the Intercontinental Championship.

Julia Hart (c) vs. Willow Nightingale – House Rules match for AEW TBS Championship

Skye Blue succumbed to Julia Hart’s influence in 2023 thus ending her alliance with Willow Nightingale. The former NJPW Strong Women’s Champion found a new partner in Kris Statlander. Both women would emerge victorious against the heel duo at AEW Revolution Zero Hero.

Skye Blue and Julia Hart would get their payback in a brutal Street Fight on March 20th AEW Rampage. Nightingale would win a fatal four-way match also featuring Statlander, Anna Jay, and Blue to challenge Hart for the TBS Championship at AEW Dynasty.

Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Pac – Continental Championship match at AEW Dynasty

Kazuchika Okada left New Japan to sign with AEW in 2024. The Rainmaker turned heel by aligning himself with EVP Bucks. This new alliance didn’t sit well with several babyfaces, including Eddie Kingston and PAC.

Kingston put his AEW Continental Championship on the line against Okada on March 20, 2024, episode of Dynamite. The champion fell to the Rainmaker. Okada would kickoff a full-fledged feud with PAC following his massive win.

The Young Bucks vs. FTR – Ladder match for the vacant AEW World Tag Team Championship

The Young Bucks failed to beat Sting and Darby Allin for the tag team titles at AEW Revolution. Allin would eventually relinquish the titles out of respect for his longtime mentor and tag team partner. The Bucks and FTR both partook in a series of matches against other AEW teams to advance to AEW Dynasty.

The build-up saw Matthew and Nicholas air the backstage brawl footage between CM Punk and Jack Perry from All In. The Bucks blamed Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler for what went down at the Wembley pay-per-view event. The two teams enter the match with a lot of history and animosity between them.

Toni Storm (c) vs. Thunder Rosa – AEW Women’s World Championship match

Thunder Rosa never lost the AEW Women’s World Championship. She was forced to relinquish it due to injury in 2022. In her absence, Toni Storm won the championship and introduced the fans to her brilliant “Timeless” gimmick.

Rosa would return to active in-ring competition in 2023 and stake claim to the title she never lost. La Mera Mera beat Storm’s protégé Mariah May in a number one contender’s match to earn her shot at AEW Dynasty.

Bryan Danielson vs. Will Ospreay for the first-time ever at AEW Dynasty

Will Ospreay became all elite at Full Gear in November 2023. The Aerial Assassin finished up his NJPW commitments in February 2024 to become a full-fledged member of AEW. He’d be confronted by Bryan Danielson following a solid match against Kyle Fletcher on March 6th Dynamite.

Both men would meet again three days later at AEW Collision to set up a singles match at AEW Dynasty. This match is being hyped as the first-ever encounter between two of the best wrestlers in the world. Who will come out as the winner when the American Dragon and Aerial Assassin collide at Dynasty?

Samoa Joe (c) vs. Swerve Strickland – AEW World Championship match

Swerve Strickland had his career-defining performance in one of the best AEW PPV matches of 2023. Neither man was able to take the AEW World Championship from Samoa Joe in their triple threat at Revolution.

Strickland would pick up a series of wins to propel him to the top of rankings in the lead-up to AEW Dynasty. The champion and the challenger have spent weeks trying to destroy each other. Will April 21 witness the start of the Swerve Dynasty or will the Samoan Submission Machine maintain his stranglehold over the world title?

WrestleZone will have full coverage of AEW Dynasty as it airs.
