Stars in Progress…Night of Champs, Sting/Hogan & More

Hulk Hogan/Sting at BFG

One Inevitable Step Down

Before I get heat for this subject, please understand that I am aware of Hogan's "retirement speech" at the recent Impact tapings.  The following comments are going off the fact "I" believe the match will still take place.  If it doesn't, you can revisit this post and simply change it from "step down" to "step up".

There were moments of greatness in the Sting/Flair match this past Thursday.  As a wrestling fan, the nostalgia took me back and reminded me of why I became a fan in the first place.  The match wasn't technically perfect by any stretch, but I didn't care about that.  I simply pretended that the two of them were in their prime again and I was witnessing magic.

In reality, it wasn't near that pretty.

The unfortunate thing is that the match foreshadowed what's to come at Bound for Glory when Sting takes on Hulk Hogan.  Ric Flair is old, but he can still…walk!  Hulk Hogan looks like he is pain everytime he gets patted on the back, so I can only imagine what type of match he's going to have.  The problem is I don't want to imagine it.  And I certainly don't want to watch it in real life.

Ric Flair and Sting would have been my pick for a sideshow act at BFG IF TNA felt the need they had to have one.  A beefed up, ppv version of the match they had on Thursday could have sufficed for me.  The promos leading up to the match would have been just as good.  And more importantly, the fear of one of the competitors actually DYING during the match would have been considerably less.

If the match does in fact take place at Bound For Glory, just understand my reasoning if I don't write this article that week.  It would simply break my heart to list Hulk Hogan and Sting in the "bad column" two times in one month.
