Stars In Progress: Extreme Rules, Edge Return, Hall & More

EXTREME RULES – ONE EXPECTED STEP UP

I believe Extreme Rules tonight will be a success for a couple of reasons.

First, the actual show from top to bottom should be entertaining. Jericho vs Punk has been much better heading into tonight's event than it was heading into 'Mania. Daniel Bryan and Sheamus will actually get a chance to work one another. And it should be good. I think Cody Rhodes "should" win the IC title back and that will be a good thing. And the main event is huge with Brock's in-ring return.

The primary reason I believe this show will be a success is what should be set up for John Cena following the ppv. I fully expect him to lose tonight and he could even take a little time off. That would allow Brock Lesnar to work with one or two other superstars, run rampant and prove his dominance before Cena returns to "save the day".

I know a lot of you will hate that idea, but I don't. As long as Cena's "character" benefits as a result. I've stressed this multiple times because I firmly believe it: it doesn't have to be a heel turn, but his gimmick needs to evolve somehow. It seems like WWE might be planning for that, too.

It starts tonight at Extreme Rules.
