ChristianSuperstar Spotlight: Christian

Christian is one of the few guys that I have enjoyed no matter what he has done, and that includes his time in both WWE and TNA. He has good in-ring skills, and he is funny, but he was never really given a shot at the top during his first run in WWE. There was the time at the beginning of his career where it didn’t make sense, but that was because he was teaming with Edge. I’m talking about the time right before he left in early 2005 when he was on Smackdown. He had already had enough time as a singles star to perfect himself, but no one in the back gave him the push. Christian was ‘at last, on his own’, he had the ‘peeps’ on his side, and he was over. He decided to leave and go to TNA, which I think was one of the better decisions in his career. TNA has a habit of pushing a lot of ex-WWE guys to the top, but of that group, I would say Christian, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy and Ken Anderson are most deserving. Christian won the TNA Heavyweight Championship and had his own stable, and he was the focus of the company for a good period of time. I remember finding out about TNA because of the X Division, but Christian was another reason I tuned in. He was finally getting the shot he deserved in WWE, and he took it and ran.

Christian eventually came back to WWE after a great run with TNA, and I have heard it was because of money, so I don’t blame him. When he came back he was placed on the ECW brand, and it was a head scratcher at first but it worked. Most people thought he would get a title feud or be the Jeff Hardy attacker, but he ended up have great matches with Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder. Christian did what he did in TNA; he got me reinterested in the ‘C’ show, but I remained a loyal viewer until the end. Christian took some time off after joining the RAW brand, and he returned from injury by helping his brother/friend. (Damn you, three month rule!) As unfortunate as it was that Edge retired, it is still fun thinking about what could have happened if (or when) Edge and Christian eventually feuded again. Who would turn? Who would win? There were alot of questions, but the fact remained the show must go on, and Chrsitian won the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules last year.

It was a really great moment and a nice reward, but then two days later, the world exploded and internet raged. Randy Orton won the title at the Smackdown tapings. Christian was still getting cheers but WWE “forced” him to go heel, and he lost the title that he had worked so hard for, in two days. I wanted an explanation, I bet alot of people did. This was one of the few times where I ignored my ‘let’s see what happens next’ rule and wanted answers now. After I calmed down, Christian won the title back, but he only held it for a month before dropping it back to Randy Orton. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the ‘One More Match’ guy, but it could have happened in another way; a better way. Now that Christian is back as a face I am wondering why, but at the same time I’m happy about it. He was forced to be a heel quicker than he was last year, and now it seems like WWE is letting fans choose sides more freely.

I don’t know what Christian is doing after holding the Intercontinental Championship, but I hope they use it to put someone else over. Cody Rhodes doesn’t need to win the title back, but being in a program with Christian will certainly help. I didn’t realize it, but he is only a four time IC champion. There are some who say he doesn’t draw, but I disagree and think he gets a great reaction; they just need to give him a platform and time. With him being over as a face, I would still like to see Christian get a proper title run, but that remains to be seen if it will happen. I think the one thing that could be said, is that he will be a constant feature on WWE TV because he is funny, but he is also good at being a weasel or a CLB. (You know, a creepy little bastard) Christian has given us fans so many great memories, and it is hard to narrow down a list, but here are some of mine:

Christian Moments:

1. ‘At Last’ Theme Song – it reeked of awesomeness

2. ‘genital warts rule’

3. battle rap vs John Cena

4. ‘Captain Charisma’ superhero costume
