Wrestlezone’s Top 10: Rise and Falls From 2011
7. Zack Ryder- Fall
Unlike R-Truth, Zack Ryder got over with the crowd in a completely different way. Ryder would go to Youtube to gain popularity with “Z True Long Island Story.” As weeks would go on, Ryder rallied for a US Title shot week after week, and the crowd would chant his name in different cities. Nobody had a cult following like Zack Ryder. His time would come, as he won the US Championship off of Dolph Ziggler at TLC in late 2011, but he would lose it to Jack Swagger soon after. Ryder would follow his title victory with a feud dealing with John Cena, Eve, and Kane. He continued to get over, evolve his character, and improve in the ring. Unfortunately, this would not last, as Zack has become an opponent for top heels to get over on. He has lost numerous times to guys like Damien Sandow, Alberto Del Rio, Kane, and others. He still gets a good reaction, but nothing nearly as Survivor Series in NYC, at the peak of his popularity.
