Isenberg Reacts: WWE Raw “Not Much Made Sense in Three Hours”

The New Day defeated John Cena and The Dudley Boyz

wwe rawSix man tag team action was all the rage on Raw tonight. The first of three featured a really physical and smart booking of champions and challengers. John Cena took most of the beating, including all three men tagging in after seven stomps to Cena in the corner. Around and around they went, until Cena was able to get the hot tag to Devon.

Devon came in and cleared the ring, which allowed Cena to hit a splash to the outside. With this happening, Devon got rolled up from behind and The New Day picks up the win.

I really enjoyed this contest for a few reasons. The New Day did such a great job cutting the ring in half. Basic wrestling psychology, isolating the tag team partner so he was never really near his teammates. Second, I thought that giving the heels the win before Hell in a Cell was the perfect decision. There is no need for the fans to “think” The Dudley Boyz can beat them on Sunday. They are not a young team or viewed as underdogs. John Cena did his part and I am intrigued to see who he drops the title to on Sunday. Yeah, I think Cena HAS to drop it.

Rusev, Sheamus and King Barrett Defeat The Faces

Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro and Neville suffer a loss at the hands of these three international heels. The contest featured some really excellent moves, with almost every guy relying on kicks. Rusev hit a superkick, while Sheamus connected with a Brogue Kick and Barrett picking up the victory over Ziggler.

I am not sure why Dolph took the loss here and why he was not pinned by Rusev. Even though that feud has simmered down (thank God), I do still feel there is a bit of unfinished business. Does WWE realize that throwing a bunch of guys together to fight a bunch of other guys only works when there is some sort of comradery?

What do Rusev, Sheamus and Barrett have in common? Does Dolph, Cesaro and Neville really NEED to team up? I just get frustrated when they try over and over and over again to make these guys feel important by putting them in feuds that have very little to no depth.
