WWE’s Expected Plans for CM Punk’s Title Reign Revealed — Report

CM Punk is back on top after winning the Undisputed WWE title on this week’s episode of RAW. Now, a new report has revealed what the company reportedly has planned for his title reign.

Punk surprised fans with his return. He added to the shock by defeating Sami Zayn in the main event of RAW to become the new champion. Earlier in the show, General Manager Adam Pearce announced that Cody Rhodes did not earn medical clearance to compete. That opened the door for Punk to replace Rhodes as Zayn’s challenger.

CM Punk will reportedly have a long title reign

According to WrestleVotes Radio, WWE is planning for Punk to have a long run as WWE Champion. Most of that reign could play out on SmackDown.

“@WrestleVotes Radio on @FightfulSelect has learned that CM Punk is expected to have a lengthy reign, most of which will be taking place on SmackDown,” the report stated.

Moreover, NBCU sees Punk as one of WWE’s biggest stars. They wanted him to become one of the main faces of the blue brand. Even though he will reportedly spend most of his time on SmackDown, Punk is still expected to appear on RAW whenever WWE feels it’s necessary.

“NBCU has been pushing for his presence on the show for well over a year, as they view him as a premier star. He will make Raw appearances when needed,” the report added.

Another report from False Finish said WWE had planned for Punk to enter SummerSlam as Undisputed WWE Champion for more than a month. That suggests the title change wasn’t a last-minute decision.

The same report also claimed WWE originally wanted Punk and Rhodes to face each other for the title at WrestleMania 43. However, those plans were reportedly moved forward to make this year’s SummerSlam feel even bigger after some fans felt WrestleMania 42 didn’t fully live up to expectations.

If those reports are accurate, Punk’s win over Sami Zayn is just the beginning of a much bigger story.
