AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin
For the second straight week, The United States Championship feud was the main event. The match itself, once again, showed me that Baron Corbin is just knocking on the door and wanting his shot at getting something more. I am a huge Baron Corbin fan and think he has the potential to be excellent.
With AJ Styles and Baron Corbin competing tonight and Styles winning via countout, I wonder what WWE will do with Corbin when WWE Payback is finished. Do we get Corbin trying to enter himself into the World Championship picture heading into WWE Backlash? Do we see him potentially being the first real feud for Shinsuke Nakamura? Maybe, he is going to be used for Tye Dillinger’s sake. All of these are good options, but whatever they decide will tell you how they really feel about him. Many say world champion, many say mid card talent.
Luckily, Smackdown provided some good moments and some pleasant surprises. At the end of the night, we were able to understand that opportunities are given on Tuesday nights. You would NEVER see some of the results from tonight on Monday night. Take it for what it is.
