Ember Moon defeated Peyton Royce
The night starts off with the return of Ember Moon to the ring, as she takes on Peyton Royce. Much of the Iconic’s offense in the ring is focused on kicks and submission holds, which helped Royce get the early advantage. Royce got aggressive and rammed Moon’s shoulder into the post. With Billie Kay causing a distraction outside, Ember Moon hit a cross body to take her out. Back into the ring, Ember was able to avoid more offense and hit a nice dropkick. All of her offense was late and set up the stunner from the top rope to pick up the win.
Establishing Ember Moon as the face that leads this division is not a bad idea, but I do think there needs to be more of an evolution of Ember Moon before she is taken seriously. She has good technique in the ring, but you can tell her persona is still a little lost. There is not enough depth in her, knowing her and getting to connect with her. All that I know about her is that she is from Dallas, Texas. That is it. As for Royce and Kay, another loss and I begin to wonder what their role in NXT really is. Will they just become the No Way Jose or Andrade Cien Almas for new women in NXT?
Sonya Deville Strikes
A pretty basic match from Sonya Deville on NXT, where they really focused on her MMA background. She hit some nice strikes and her gimmick is very simple, yet effective. I like her look, her presentation and her ability to be viewed as a legit fighter. This is something that the women’s division needs, a fierce competitor who can crossover from a MMA background and into the squared circle.
