Rey Mysterio entered at number two and would go on to make history by becoming the superstar to last longest in a single Rumble match. The record had just been set two years prior, and with Mysterio’s heart and will, he overcame a lot of odds. It was Mysterio at his peak and with Eddie Guerrero having just passed a couple of months prior to the event, fans badly wanted to see Mysterio achieve the impossible and win the Rumble.
It was a great underdog story and the lucha legend overcame a strong set of 29 other competitors to win the Rumble and earn his ticket to WrestleMania. However, his road to the grandest stage was filled with bumps hurdles, but he overcame it all to eventually become World Champion.
