Honky Tonk Man reigned supreme as a hated Intercontinental Champion for 454 days. Fans were desperate for it to come to an end, and hoped that Honky Tonk Man’s Summerslam 1988 match against Brutus Beefcake would spell the end of his title run. However, Beefcake got injured and Honky Tonk Man put on an open challenge for anyone to compete.

This would lead to The Ultimate Warrior, hardly a year into his debut, coming out and squashing Honky Tonk Man. It took him a grand total of 27 seconds to beat him, ending his historic title reign.
