Bruno Sammartino needs no introduction. He was the first major star of the WWWF and iconic multi-time World Champion. He sold out Madison Square Garden a reported 188 times, more than any performer across any entertainment field in history. His first WWWF Championship reign lasted a whopping 2803 days, which came up to over seven and a half years.
He would lose the title to Ivan Koloff, leaving MSG to fall into pin-drop silence. However, this was during the days of “transitional” reigns, where heels would have extremely short runs so that the torch could be passed. Vince McMahon Sr. felt that Pedro Morales fit the bill, and he was the one who ended up dethroning Koloff after just 21 days to begin a 1027-day WWWF Championship reign.
