The 5 Best WWE Matches Of 1995

#3.) Diesel vs Bret Hart – Royal Rumble

We’re never ones to vouch for overbooking of matches, but when done right, there’s nothing like it. The Royal Rumble WWF title match saw Diesel defend the title against the man who Bob Backlund beat to become champion – Bret Hart. It was a special encounter and despite being a solid babyface, Bret Hart found himself getting booed by fans.

Hart, of course, is a masterful storyteller and did everything he could do negate Diesel’s size advantage – primarily taking him to the ground. There was interference from Shawn Michaels, Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie against Diesel, while Owen Hart and Bob Backlund were against Bret Hart.

Ultimately, the match would end in a DQ, but it was an incredible bout anyway. They would later face for the WWF title at Survivor Series later that year. While the match wasn’t as good, it was satisfactory and Bret Hart would dethrone Diesel’s nearly year-long title reign.
