#2.) The Rock – 1997

When The Rock debuted in WWF at Survivor Series 1996, he was a young, bubbly upstart named Rocky Maivia who had a mini-afro and tassels to go with his design. Vince McMahon and everybody else on commentary put him over big time as the next major star in WWE and he was getting a steady push…until the fans rejected him.

Maivia tried to do right and win and make it to the top the honorable way, but fans berated him for it and chanted “Die Rocky! Die!” instead. He eventually snapped and turned against them, becoming the most charismatic superstar in wrestling history. His heel turn was completely justified and skyrocketed him to new heights.
