Reported Date For WWE’s Second Saudi Arabia Event In 2019

WWE will be returning to Saudi Arabia for a second time in 2019 on November 1. Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer confirmed the news, initially reported by Rajah. WWE’s first Saudi Arabia show takes place in May, which Fightful reported back on Feb 5th. Meltzer notes that the May and November dates cut down the number of events during WWE’s European tour in both months.

This allows WWE to focus on larger arenas and also explains why the average European attendance was up last year. At the same time, individually, big venues were down. The 3,000 to 5,000 shows, which hurt the average, were the shows that were cut back on. WWE has yet to publicly announce any return to Saudi Arabia. Meltzer speculated several weeks ago that the company likely won’t do so for “as long as possible”.

The move is likely an attempt to keep any heat away from the company. WWE was under fire for going through with their Crown Jewel event last year in November following the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s possible role in the murder.
