The Rock has shared a video on his social media in which The People’s Champ (and TIME 100 cover boy) talks about how his key to success has been a cultivation of confidence he was able to gather as he grew older. Rock talks about how much he used to hate when his dad would make him do something active every morning, but how looking back it built him into the man that he is today. He also says how an important aspect of confidence is being comfortable in your own skin. The man once known as Rocky Maivia said it took him a while to garner confidence and says what others can do to achieve their own.
Confidence is a tricky thing.
We’re not born being confident or self assured.
Confidence takes time to foster, develop and mature.
But over the years I’ve found the greatest of confidence comes when you finally get comfortable in your own skin without pretense, putting on a show or trying to be something you’re not.
Be at ease, be real and confidence will come.
Trust me, I’m the dude who between the ages of 9 and 11 people thought I was a little girl because my hair and features were so soft – which you’ll see in this video.
That did wonders for my confidence.
