Collector’s Corner: Mattel WWE Series 98 (Photos)

Mattel and Ringside Collectibles have released the latest Basic series, WWE Series 98! This set features the very first Tony Nese action figures for anyone whom is a fan of 205 Live! You can currently get them on RingsideCollectibles.com and SAVE 10% with discount code MBG at checkout!

The set includes:

  • Tony Nese (with Chase variant)
  • Ruby Riott
  • Finn Bálor
  • Ultimate Warrior
  • Elias

Tony Nese

Tony has two figures in the set, one being his mass released figure in white while his chase variant is in silver. The chase variant is limited to one per case I believe. The white attire features brown and gold designs throughout, which looks pretty nice and detailed for a Basic figure. His very first head scan turned out nicely as well as you can see the detail in his hair to even the bun/ponytail on the back. His chase variant is in silver with black and white designs and I think I prefer this outfit to the main one.

Overall, Tony’s figures are nice and his likeness is great. I just wish he was an Elite as he is in 205 Live after all and he is extremely athletic, something you can’t do with his Basic figure as far as posing goes. His articulation is limited due to his thick, tall knee pads and lack of ankle articulation. I believe he does have an Elite coming though but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Ruby Riott

Ruby’s first Basic figure is excellent. It has a more current look for her with her longer hair and it’s down to her shoulders. You can see the detail in the partially shaven part of her hair to even the detail in her makeup on her face. She’s covered in tattoos, which is awesome for a Basic figure as this figure is really detailed. Even her tights have Riott on them and you can see the belt design around her waist. Ruby unfortunately lacks and chest articulation like the older female figures have, which would’ve made this figure that much better.

Overall, this figure is a gem. The detail on it is fantastic and it looks just like her. I was blown away by all the tattoo work and graphics in general on her. I really wish this was an Elite as well as it would look fantastic with more articulation. If you passed on her Elite from the NXT set I recommend picking this up until we get another Elite of her in the future.

Finn Bálor

Finn looks like most of his other figures as of late. He has his non-demon attire, this being an all-white attire. His head scan is pretty detailed with the fade in his hair to his facial hair on his face. His attire is very simple, but it has a nice, clean look to it.

Overall, Finn is nice if you enjoy collecting his figures. It’s very simple and clean looking, but at least it pops with an all-white attire. It’s nice to see him in a different colored outfit for a change. Too bad this attire isn’t in Elite form as it would look nice.

Ultimate Warrior

Warrior might have been a disappointment to some seeing he has yet another figure that looks pretty similar to past figures, but he actually features some extra articulation the others in the set don’t have. He has ankle joints! They used his older boot mold as I’m sure it was cheaper than creating new boots with less joints. Regardless, he has his flashy yellow and orange attire with his yelling head scan covered in face paint. Not to mention his awesome knee pads with the tassels hanging off the sides.

Overall, this figure is nothing special as it’s similar to many of his previous figures. If you enjoy collecting Warrior’s figures you’ll enjoy this one but it’s not his most exciting figure. Personally, I’m tired of seeing him as they overproduce him a lot but it’s not a bad figure at all overall, just boring.

Elias

Lastly we have The Drifter, Elias. Elias’ figure looks just like his others, this one just featuring green pants instead. He’s rocking his bandana wristbands on both wrists, which are very detailed and a separate mold, which is nice. Not to mention his all black boots.

Overall, Elias looks nice, but his figure isn’t very exciting as it’s just a quick repaint of his other figures lately. If you enjoy collecting him pick him up.

Overall

Overall this set isn’t bad. I like the lineup and really like the Tony and Ruby figures. They’re both pretty detailed, which is impressive for the WWE Series figures. Perhaps Mattel is investing more into these sets, too, to create even better looking figures. Don’t sleep on getting that Ruby though, you’ll probably regret it later! Get them over on Ringside while they’re still there, especially Tony Nese!
