Chris Jericho Talks New Fozzy Album 2020, Picking Out Christmas Favorites

In addition to being the youngest AEW champion in history, Chris Jericho has been busy with his music career. His band Fozzy recently signed with Sony, and they’re currently working on a new album for 2020 called, appropriately enough, 2020. In a With Spandex interview, Jericho goes over both that album and his bonus Christmas single to cap off 2019.

When asked why he covered The Kinks over more notable Christmas songs, Jericho fired back that he couldn’t think of many others that would work. “The Kinks are very underrated in terms of legendary bands like the Who or the Beatles. I love the Kinks. Aside from the Stones, I think the Kinks had the best output in the ’70s. Obviously I’m a metal guy, I’m gonna sing it with more of a metal attitude, that’s just the way my voice sounds.”

Interviewer Scott Heisel suggested Mariah Carey’s famous holiday hit, but Jericho denied ever hearing it. “I’ve never heard that song in my life and I probably never will. I’ll lose my rock ’n’ roll credibility if I say I have.” All proceeds from Jericho’s chosen Christmas tune go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

As for 2020, Chris says that working with Sony has meant more output and a reliable string of #1 hits for Fozzy. “I just heard two more new songs that we’re gonna record this month, and we’re probably gonna start recording more and more often. So I think we’re gonna be looking at a late spring release.”
