You think you know me… Edge made his in-ring return and entered the 2020 Royal Rumble match.
Edge made his first in-ring appearance in nine years, entering this year’s men’s Rumble match as the 21st entrant. Wrestlezone had previously reported on January 10th that he would make an appearance in the Rumble match and had been working out, trying to get his ring timing down in preparation for the match.
The ‘Rated R Superstar’ had denied he is returning to the ring in the past, tweeting he was “still not” returning after a report attributed to PWInsider.com said he had been in Pittsburgh for ‘WWE business’, which led to speculation he was working on getting cleared. More recently, Edge had denied signing a new WWE deal on the Live On 4 Legs podcast, saying he had no idea where the “rumors” had come from.
Despite his Rumble return, it’s still unclear how active Edge will be after tonight’s appearance. The WWE Hall Of Famer has been retired from in-ring competition since 2011 due to cervical spinal stenosis but has been back on WWE TV sporadically over the years. He had not done any physical spots prior to Summerslam 2019 where he speared Elias; he later said (on his “Pod Of Awesomeness” podcast) that and said he feels good enough where he thinks he could have a match ‘tomorrow.’ At the time, he explained WWE clearing him was another hurdle but said his recent physical acting work since his in-ring retirement made him believe he was healthy enough for one more match.
Edge ended up eliminating three Superstars in tonight’s Rumble match (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Randy Orton); he ended up being one of the final three participants in the match and was eliminated by Roman Reigns.
