Rob Gronkowski Reportedly Enacts Release Clause In WWE Deal

Rob Gronkowski is no longer under WWE contract, according to new reports.

Last night on Monday Night Raw, Rob Gronkowski lost the WWE 24/7 Championship to R-Truth. While Truth is happy to get back his most prized possession, it appears this is the end of the line for the short-lived WWE career of Rob Gronkowski.

According to a new report from Raj Giri of WrestlingInc, Gronkowski had a release clause in his WWE contract and has exercised this clause upon returning to the NFL to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Gronkowski signed with WWE this past March and had hopes of wrestling in August at SummerSlam, but it appears now that match will no longer be happening. Gronkowski did host the two-night Wrestlemania 36 event in April where he would win the WWE 24/7 Championship and go on to set a record for the time he held that championship.

During his time with the championship, Gronkowski would receive challenges, ingest, from all across the sports world. NBA star Enes Kanter even said he was hoping to be the one to wrestle Gronkowski at SummerSlam for the championship, as he has held the title himself.

WrestleZone will continue to monitor the story and update you all as more becomes available.
