Randy Orton has been making the rounds lately ahead of his match with Edge at WWE Backlash. In an interview with Matty Paddock of the Daily Star, Orton discussed several topics, including how his perspective has changed. Orton said that, early on, he only cared about himself and his survival in the industry. But he reflected on how he’s grown in the past few years. “‘Recently, in the last few years after working with Jinder Mahal and trying to get other guys over and trying to teach other guys the little things that I do well… sending that knowledge back kind of comes full circle,’” said Orton via Paddock.
Orton described the circular nature of his career; whereas he used to be a young superstar who had Triple H and Ric Flair to mentor him, now it’s Orton’s turn to guide others. “‘To be at that point now, it’s nice to be able to give back to a business that I grew up around and that has fed my family for 20-plus years,’” said Orton via Paddock.
The Viper also looked back on his work with legends like Shawn Michaels, Edge and the Undertaker. He said that he hasn’t quite matched them in terms of their legacy. “’When it comes to comparing me to these other guys, I’ll always look up to people like Edge and The Undertaker,’” said Ortion via Paddock. “‘ I’ve got a little more to do before I can compare myself to them….'”
Lastly, Orton praised the state of the locker room in today’s WWE. “‘In the whole 20 years I’ve been in there, the locker room has never been a more balanced place with the men and women that are in it,’” said Orton via Paddock.
