Vince McMahon Planned Mass Layoffs Prior To WrestleMania 36

When WWE released a handful of superstars a couple of months ago, it came as a shock across the wrestling world. According to a new report by ESPN, however, Vince McMahon had planned the massive amount of layoffs well in advance.

In a new report detailing the collapse of the XFL, ESPN reports that McMahon was working on plans for a series of layoffs, furloughs, and other cost-cutting moves well before WrestleMania 36, which aired on April 4-5. The report also says that the moves were designed to help stabilize the company for an extended period of time, as they had begun losing money thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the WWE continues to put on shows amidst the pandemic, it does seem like it’s costing the company in other ways. Whether or not McMahon has any other plans to help slow the loss of money will have to wait to be seen, but in the meantime shows will continue to be held, as wrestlers aim to put on a show for those at home.
