WWE NXT Results (7/29/20)

The show opened up with a recap of last week’s events and the Beatdown of Dominik Djokovic by Karrion Kross.

Io Shirai was making her entrance video opening tag match when she was attacked by Dakota Kai, quickly all four women rushed the ring and we were off with our first match.

Dakota Kai and Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai and Tegan Nox

Early on, Nox tangled with Candice as the commentary team spoke about Tegan Nox being betrayed by friends. Both makeshift tag teams would display good teamwork offense before Candice would throw the NXT Women’s Champion into the steel steps to send us to our first commercial break.

Back from break, action would remain in a back-and-forth capacity. In the home stretch, Tegan hits Candice with The Shiniest Wizard when the referee is distracted while checking on Io and Dakota at ringside. Io then gets back up top and hits a moonsault for the pin and the win.

After the match, Dakota Kai leaves Candice behind not worrying about her well-being.

The commentary team showed a recap of the incident between Pat McAfee and Adam Cole. up next, Johnny Gargano takes on Roderick Strong.

Johnny Gargano vs. Roderick Strong

It appeared based on the audience in Full Sail that Roderick Strong will be playing the babyface for the bout. Beth Phoenix on commentary kept referencing how the new attitude for Johnny Gargano hasn’t exactly been equivalent to success. Both of the men go back and forth as the announce teams continue stressing that each man needs a victory after last week, Johnny counters a Boston crab. Roddy drops Johnny with an up kick and Johnny sends him out of the ring with a superkick before missing a baseball slide, but hitting a head scissors into the barricade. Johnny then sends Roddy into the plexiglass at ringside before rolling him back into the ring and hitting The Final Beat for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Johnny Gargano

Dakota Kai is interviewed backstage about being the number one Contender, she says she’s no longer a team player. The newly platinum blond Rhea Ripley makes an appearance and said she’s glad Dakota is no longer a team player but she takes offense at her saying that she’s the number one contender before Kai says that she’s going to talk to General Manager Regal.

Back from break, the Undisputed ERA is shown arguing.

Shotzi Blackheart vs. Mercedes Martinez

Early on, Shotzi Blackheart comes out like a house afire but she gets distracted by Robert Stone allowing Mercedes to get the upper hand. Blackheart would try to get some quick victories off of roll ups. Ultimately, Mercedes catches Shotzi coming off of the ropes and hits a spinebuster for two before mounting and punching Shotzi and lifting her up. Shotzi counters a fisherman’s buster and Mercedes counters a sliced bread in the corner. Mercedes then hits spider suplex off the top before hitting a variation of an air raid crash for the 3.

WINNER: Mercedes Martinez

A promo is shown for Ridge Holland Debuting in NXT America. He was originally a star in NXT UK before that brand had to temporarily shut down.

Keith Lee Cut a promo on Kross. Cameron Grimes cut off Lee and tried to say that he would be the next Champion but Keith remained stone-faced until Grimes was in Arm’s Reach. After Keith disposed of Grimes, Scarlet appeared and set the stage for a Kross promo. Lee basically said no matter the time or the place, he had no problem whipping Kross’ ass.

IMPERIUM vs. Ever-Rise

IMPERIUM had a strong showing in a nice enhancement match. They tried to cut a promo after the match, but we’re interrupted by all of the Undisputed era who came out and simply tore them to shreds.

William Regal appeared very quickly saying that he had no intention of being bullied into making a championship match and reminded everyone that Championship matches are earned in NXT.

Isaiah Scott versus Jake Atlas

Aside from a few headscissors by Isaiah, both he and Jake continue to dodge each other’s attacks as is typical inCruiserweight matchups. Jake hits a headscissors of his own before Isaiah gets a two-count off a crucifix attempt. We go to the commercial break shortly thereafter

Back from break, Jake is hitting a springboard blockbuster for two and he also gets a two-count off of a headlock driver. Scott gets his own two off of a German suplex. In the end, Isaiah counters the Rainbow DDT and Isaiah superkicks him before hitting The House Call. Isaiah then rolls Jake back into the ring and hit the JML driver for the pin and the win.

Next week, the Undisputed Era will challenge for the Tag Team Championship.

North American Championship Ladder Match Qualifier Match: Finn Balor vs Dexter Lumis vs Timothy Thatcher

The action starts off fast and heavy as we go to a commercial break with Timothy Thatcher standing tall after knocking Finn Balor off the apron.

Back from break, Timothy remains in control by knocking Dexter off of the apron and engaging in a strike fast with Finn Balor. Towards the end of the match, Dexter locks in The Silence on Thatcher while he has Balor in the ankle lock. Dexter then chokes Tim unconscious while he has the ankle lock on Finn until the referee makes him stop.
