Gauntlet Eliminator Match Rules Per WWE.Com: 

  • Two men will start in the ring.
  • Every four minutes, another competitor will enter.
  • The only way to be eliminated is via pinfall or submission.
  • The last man standing will be named the No. 1 Contender and challenge Finn Bálor for the NXT Title at the next edition of NXT TakeOver on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Number One Contender Gauntlet Eliminator Match: Kyle O’Reilly vs. Kushida vs. Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Timothy Thatcher

O’Reilly and Kushida start the match. Kushida and O’Reilly trade submission attempts. Kushida takes O’Reilly down and hits a basement suplex. Kushida snaps O’Reilly’s arm back. Kushida focuses his assault on O’Reilly’s arm. O’Reilly and Kushida trade strikes. Bronson Reed is out next. Reed press slams Kushida into O’Reilly. Reed crushes O’Reilly and Kushida in the corner. Reed picks up O’Reilly and Kushida at the same time for a Samoan drop. Kushida lands a handspring back elbow on Reed and O’Reilly. O’Reilly reverses Kushida’s sunset flip into an armbar. Reed tries to stomp O’Reilly but O’Reilly locks Reed in a heel hook. Kushida hits a standing moonsault. Kushida puts O’Reilly in the Hoverboard Lock. Reed grabs Kushida and deadlifts suplexes him, releasing O’Reilly from the hold. Reed hits a huge senton. Reed and O’Reilly are fighting on the top rope. Kushida hits them with a double Koppo kick. While the referee is distracted, The Velveteen Dream sneaks in the ring and drops him with the Dream Valley Driver. Reed flattens Kushida with a splash off the top for the pin.

Kushida has been eliminated.

Timothy Thatcher enters the match. After the break, Cameron Grimes has entered the match. Grimes lands a nasty side effect for a near fall. O’Reilly lands a flying knee off the apron. Reed slingshots Grimes over the top rope onto O’Reilly and Thatcher. Reed crushes Thatcher with a DVD. Thatcher kicks out. Reed hits a massive powerbomb on O’Reilly. O’Reilly manages to kick out. A suicide dive by Reed takes everyone out. After the break, Reed uranage suplexes O’Reilly onto Thatcher. Reed misses a splash off the top. O’Reilly hits a King Kong Knee Drop off the top on Reed. O’Reilly pins Reed.

Bronson Reed has been eliminated.

Thatcher and O’Reilly trade ankle locks. Grimes hits a surprise deadlift German suplex on O’Reilly. O’Reilly and Thatcher trade strikes. O’Reilly accidentally kicks Grimes because  Thatcher ducks. Thatcher puts O’Reilly in a sleeper. Grimes throws a kick but O’Reilly locks him in an ankle lock. Grimes is dumped over the top by Thatcher. O’Reilly rolls up Thatcher for the pin.

Timothy Thatcher has been eliminated.

Grimes immediately destroys O’Reilly with the Cave In. O’Reilly gets his foot on the bottom rope but Grimes thinks he’s won. When Grimes realizes it’s not over, Grimes yells at O’Reilly. O’Reilly isn’t as good as Cole. O’Reilly fires up. O’Reilly hits the ropes and runs right into Grimes patented spinning crossbody block. O’Reilly kicks out. Grimes tries another Cave In but O’Reilly moves out of the way. O’Reilly rolls Grimes into a heel hook. Grimes taps out immediately.

Winner and NEW Number One Contender, Kyle O’Reilly!

After the match, the rest of the UE hit the ring to congratulate O’Reilly. Finn Bálor walks out on the stage and glares at O’Reilly.
