Edge hasn’t really given much thought about his WWE career being censored on Peacock, but he did say he’s still not sure why people can’t separate reality and entertainment in the first place.
Edge was a recent guest on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast and he was asked about the potential that his “Live Sex Celebration” on RAW in 2006 could be censored when it premieres on Peacock. Edge said he actually doesn’t give it much thought, but pointed to it as an example of how wrestling is often called “entertainment” but it comes with different standards than movies and televisions.
“You know, I don’t put a whole lot of thought into it, to be honest. I guess if you’re looking at it from the terms of ‘it’s a TV show’, right, so you go ‘OK. Well, if you look at a movie, there’s sex scenes.’ If—I was on Vikings, and Vikings is going to be on Peacock as of today, and my character beheaded people and put their heads on spikes. Didn’t really, but I also didn’t really have sex in a wrestling ring, so I don’t know. I think that’s a confusing thing with wrestling, that for some reason it gets put into a different category than another production. And I’ve never fully grasped that, but I don’t think anybody ever fully grasps, ‘Well, where do you put it?’”
Host Jimmy Traina remarked that he just shared a clip of the infamous “Pillman’s Got A Gun” segment, and Edge pointed out why it’s all just character work, but some still want to censor what they do and put it in a different class.
“Clearly, his name is not ‘Stone Cold.’ Clearly Brian’s name wasn’t “Loose Cannon.” We’re playing characters, and I’ve never fully understood that, or it’ll be ‘Oh, well, it’s just entertainment.’ Yeah. ‘…But you can’t do that.’ Well, why? You just said it was entertainment. I never fully figured that out, and where it actually falls.”
