NXT TakeOver: In Your House Returning In June, Todd Pettengill To Host

NXT TakeOver will once again be “In Your House” this June.

On Tuesday, WWE confirmed NXT TakeOver: In Your House will return as the next TakeOver special event on June 13. Fightful Select first reported the event would return; this is the second consecutive year NXT ran an event under the “In Your House” name.

WWE issued the following on Tuesday to publicly announce the event’s return, as well as the return of Todd Pettengill as host:

The Superstars of NXT are set to TakeOver your house!

As first reported on Barstool Sports’ “Rasslin” podcast in Brandon Walker’s interview with Johnny Gargano, the black-and-gold brand will present NXT TakeOver: In Your House on Sunday, June 13, at 7 ET/4 PT, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network elsewhere.

Former WWE announcer Todd Pettengill, who is synonymous with the iconic In Your House brand, will return to host the festivities.

NXT brought back the landmark event last June for the first time in more than 21 years, featuring the destructive TakeOver debut of current NXT Champion Karrion Kross and an unforgettable NXT Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match between Io Shirai, Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley.

What will Kross and company have in store for the NXT Universe when the black-and-gold brand once again takes over?

Pettengill was featured on last year’s event in lead-in promos and the event pre-show, but did not appear live on the broadcast. Pettengill worked with WWE from 1993 to 1997 and on the inaugural In Your House event on May 14, 1995.

Last year during a TakeOver media call, Triple H was asked by WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard how the pandemic played into bringing back the name and if there’s potential we could see more In Your House events in the future. He said it was absolutely a product of the circumstances, but he could definitely see the theme returning if the demand was there.

“As TakeOvers evolved in the beginning, they all had different names and as they started going to the cities, then we started sort of morphing them into the city and the location so it’s always a fluid ‘work in progress’ kind of thought,” he explained. “So as this came about, when we were going to have the opportunity to do a TakeOver on June 7 [2020] on the Network, and you know, ‘What should we do then now cause we’re back in Florida and we’re in our home and it’s not like you want to go back to the city or anything’ so the conversation came up and it just seemed like the perfect timing for, ‘Boy, everybody’s stuck in their house, it’s the perfect timing.’

“The reaction to it was huge. It was funny that we made the decision to name it In Your House, TakeOver: In Your House and it wasn’t until after that we made the decision that it was pointed out to me that it was like a couple days before the 25th anniversary of the first In Your House PPV. It was just a happy coincidence. So it all worked out great and yeah, I think we’ll see where it goes and the enjoyment level and everything else,” Triple H said, “but it definitely could become something that comes back. If it’s as good as I think as it’s gonna be I think people might demand it come back, so we’ll work on it.”
