Jonathan Gresham On Facing Minoru Suzuki: It’s A Chance To Prove That I’m The Best Wrestler In The World

Jonathan Gresham,  a breakout star who is regularly called the best “pure” wrestler in the world, is just a few hours away from competing in a genuine dream match.

At Game Changer Wrestling’s Highest in the Room event, “The Octopus” will face Minoru Suzuki, a living legend who remains renowned for his brutally physical wrestling style.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Gresham expressed his excitement about this bout and noted how it echoes the fans’ anticipation for this collision.

“I love challenges, and I’m so excited for this match against Suzuki,” said Gresham. “I’ve got a tremendous response from fans hyping up this match. People can’t wait to watch it, and I can’t wait to step into the ring.”

Gresham has become widely associated with pure wrestling, in Ring of Honor and beyond, and it’s fair to call him a trailblazer with his style. In the interview, Gresham compared the way Suzuki pioneered his own style to his hopes of elevating technical wrestling.

“Not many people know this, but my dream was to pioneer a wrestling style,” said Gresham. “And do that in a way like Último Dragón or Suzuki. Minoru Suzuki represents a certain style, and you know what you’re going to get as soon as you see him with his shoot-style Pancrase wrestling. My goal is to do that with pure wrestling.”

Finally, Gresham noted that facing Suzuki is a chance to truly prove that he is the best, bar none, as the clash is an opportunity to test himself against an all-time great.

“This is a chance to see a legend in Minoru Suzuki against me, someone who is so dedicated and devoted to the craft,” said Gresham. “I’m here to prove to the world that I am what I believe I am, and that is the best professional wrestler in the world. This match is going to help me establish that.”

GCW: Highest in the Room will air on September 17 at 11 p.m. EST. The show will be available through FITE, and the star-studded card includes Chris Dickinson vs. Jacob Fatu. Nick Gage, Effy, and Alex Zayne, among others, are also set to compete.
