New Japan Pro Wrestling continued the 2021 World Tag League on Wednesday. A breezy show, headlined by IWGP Heavyweight Tag Champions Dangerous Tekkers standing tall, undefeated in block competition so far.
Their opponents, Owens & Fale have been finding their groove, after Fale’s prolonged absence due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, but they were not able to continue their winning ways against Dangerous Tekkers. Despite Owens challenging Taichi to a sumo match, like he did in the G1, it was Sabre that put down the Texas Heavyweight Champion.
Dangerous Tekkers aren’t the only team experiencing the highs of an early undefeated streak. Last year’s winners, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa got another win over NJPW legends. After besting Honma & Makabe in the Tag League opener, the two Tongans got a win over the makeshift team of Tiger Mask & Yuji Nagata. Tanga Loa busted out his crossface submission that he learned from Jado, The OJK.
While Nagata & Tiger Mask’s makeshift team hasn’t had as much success, Toru Yano & Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Be-Bop World Tag League (based on the anime/movie Be-Bop High School) got another big win. After their win over House of Torture on Sunday, the coiffed tag team got a win over two-time Tag League winners Honma & Makabe.
Tetsuya Naito & SANADA’s entry into this year’s tag league was met with great fanfare, and so far the results have proved that fanfare warranted. The former-tag champs are currently undefeated in block competition, with their latest win over Minoru Suzuki & TAKA Michinoku.
TAKA has had a rough tag league, he was beaten into unconsciousness by his Suzuki-gun stablemates in the opening show, and now found himself submitting to SANADA’s Skull End.
Elsewhere on the show, United Empire’s Great-O-Khan & Aaron Henare debuted a new tandem finisher. Also YOSHI-HASHI & Goto bested Ten-cozy, and Yuto Nakashima and Ryohei Oiwa wrestled to another gripping Time Limit Draw.
