King Woods Wants To Try New Things And Bring Something Different To The Table Every Week

For a long time, Xavier Woods’ ultimate goal in WWE was to win the King of the Ring tournament.

Now that he’s checked that off the list, it’s fair to wonder what King Woods wants to do next.

In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling’s SP3, Woods explained that, in his mind, he’s operating on “bonus time” because he previously thought that being the king was the endgame. With this accomplishment in the rear-view mirror, he described how he now aims to produce fresh, entertaining content every single week. He recalled how people once dismissed his attempts to make people laugh on a wrestling show, and proving these doubters wrong continues to motivate him.

“As far as wrestling goals, now I’m on bonus time,” said Woods. “Like if they would have been like hey, you won King of the Ring, and I came to the back and [Vince] hit me with a ‘You’re fired,’ I would have been like alright, deuces. I appreciate it, it’s been a fun ride. So being in this realm of my career, I feel really excited because now I’m digging more into that notebook of things people told me that would never happen. When I was in FCW back in the day, ‘Hey I think we should do this, this and this.’ ‘No, that’s ridiculous, this is a wrestling show. Why would you try to be funny? People don’t want to be entertained, and they don’t want to laugh.’

“What are you talking about, dude? And then we made New Day, and everybody shut up. Not everybody. But there’s people, I have lots of beef in my chest from the past. Anyway, it drives me, so I’m digging more into that notebook of ridiculous things and seeing how I can work them into the show and make them fun and exciting, and make them feel new.”

Woods emphasized his hope to create new things every time he performs because, to him, that’s the true role of an artist. He went on to compare rehashing old content to repeatedly serving the same food; even if it’s good, people eventually want to have something different.

“I feel like if we just regurgitate the same thing over and over again, we’re not artists anymore, we’re just rehashing things,” said Woods. “And that’s totally fine, I’m not knocking that vibe. But for me, my brain feels, at homeostasis, I guess, I feel even, I feel not off-kilter when I’m creating something. And so with all of this stuff in this solo run that I’m having run right now, I’m going to do my best to create things every week. And they might not work at all; it might be the worst thing you’ve ever seen in your life. But I’m making an attempt to be something better.

“And I feel like I could give you the same thing, I could serve you the same lunch. Every day, we can eat pizza with the square pepperonis. It’s gonna be good for a few weeks. And then you’re gonna want something else. So I’m gonna attempt to bring something different to the table every time they see me, and we’ll see if it works.”

Time will tell exactly what Woods has up his sleeve, but based on his track record, predicting that he’ll succeed in his wish to create new things is a safe bet.
